Thanks for the heads up on NOD32. I'm checking it out at home now so that maybe we can change from Symantec at work.

I have scanned many times with AVG and also Symantec with no 'results'. Then I scanned last night with NOD32 and it revealed a number of things including some adware installers. I then went to the specific file and scanned it again and it turned up with a clean result. One question that I have is, is this a usual type of problem? Also it seems that it cant open most archives.

The file in question here is one of the types you can get from the large customising sites for backgrounds, wallpapers, logon's etc. You used to be able to get the stuff without problems but for a while now they have it all bundled with so much other crap which you also have to install to get what you wanted in the first place. As it turns out most of the bundled progs are adware and some even were classed as trojans.

Nugg first of all i have to be the first to admit NOD is hard to setup and unless you got all the options for EMOM,IMON,DMON,AMON and NOD32 in the control panel it wont do much. If you struggling ill setp a tutorial for you - just shout if you need it - or anyone else for that matter.

Try this for a scan - turn off System restore then retart in Safe mode with command prompt. Run and In-depth anlysis from there.

Its a permission thing - but the above should fix that! 8)
