Yeah, I could see that as well. That'd be a hard call.

What if it wasn’t the premium member, but instead was a new flag? Something like ‘Gifted Member’; ‘Sponsored Member’; or use a medal system, ‘Gold Medal Member’; etc…

It differentiates from the Premium member, but not in a derogatory way. Actually, it could be setup so that only way to get it is to be sponsored and have 3 qualified members support the vote.

Maybe this would open another can of worms, but it might be something to think about. :blink

What does it really matter? All it takes is one person to think someone is worthy of it. And thats the person that paying for it. There is no reason it should have to be approved by others it is not their money. I wouldn't want someone telling me how I could or could not spend my money. Just because someone is sponsored dosen't mean they aren't worthy of the title premium membership.

Ummm, that wouldn't be fair would it since your line of work is directly earning the certificate so you can write about them? I think that badge would be more for someone like wagner.

Actually, less than a year ago, I was the senior network admin at a healthcare company; I earned the certifications for the same reasons everyone else did.

Just because I write about certifications makes me no less a "certification guru" than if I worked as a "real tech".

Do we really need separate badges? Seems like it could get out of hand quickly for the admins to start doling out separate badges for whether a premium member is a sponsored member, a gold member, a platinum member, etc.

I understand why people might want special badges, but where would it stop? A premium member is a premium member, no?

Yes but how many of them certs were earned at TS and now Boson. I am not saying you did not earn them, what I am saying is that you having a badge like that is like the pepsi company having contest for a million dollars and the employes are aloud to enter and then win it. Wagnerk and supageek don't have to go after all the exams they do like you do. But they do it to better themselves as a tech and round out their education. There is a difference there.

Mitzs, this may surprise you... but I don't HAVE to pass ANY exams here. :) I do so for the same reason THEY do.

The 3 people thing was to avoid it from being tainted. The idea was it would be more ‘earned’ as opposed to ‘let’s make a deal. You sponsor me & I’ll sponsor you…”

I don’t disagree, I was just trying to come up with a fair solution to Fergal’s initial point of honouring the actual sponsor.

It's a nice thought mate, but as it stands (and I think the others might agree with me) I'm not looking for any fame and glory by sponsoring someone. I did it because I think the guy deserves it and I know that maybe his financial situation isn't the best at the moment (new baby etc). It's nice to get a nod of recognition but at the end of the day if it wasn't public and nobody knew that I sponsored him, I would still feel good about what I did and that's all I need.

    Well said Josh. :thumbleft

I would have thought that this would be between the sponsor and sponsored member. If the sponsored member wishes to thank their sponsor, then a mention in their Sig would suffice so long as they both agree that's what they want to happen.

I personally can see no real need to start having anymore badges.

My thoughts exactly! It feels good to finally be able to recognize those members who contribute to the site, but have too many financial commitments to be able to afford the Premium membership fee. :lovly

I think Nuggets hit the nail on the head there, well said, totally agree.:rocks

That's why I did the sponsorship, I know we have rep here and members award, but sometimes I think it's nice to show someone how much we appreciate their advice and help on this forum. A lot of members here go out of the way to answer member’s questions and some don't have a lot of time to spare. Due to family or work commitments..

So I am very happy that we have the sponsor options, although to me it doesn't matter if it goes public or not. Just so long as the person you are sponsor (saying thankyou to) knows.

:hhhmmm reading sunn's post, there's some interesting idea's but things may get a little confusing with regards to different badges and different membership.
Maybe Sunn should post a thread on it and do a poll, get some feed back!8)

I thought of that, but truthfully I was discussing it to bring in a new angle for Fergal's initial point. I don't know if like the idea of different badges for sponsored members - I wouldn't want to make anyone feel like an outcast. :ohmy

I'm open to AJ's idea about adding a line in the sig. 8)
