question is who pays the sponsorship?

all good and well nominating but unless you're willing to put your hands in your pockets.....

I like the idea enough to put my hands in my pockets. I originally sponsored Mitzs because she is my daughter and she loves green. I am also looking at becoming a lifetime member, but was wondering if you could make that some other colour than banana? Like a nice gold or maybe just green with the different title?

On the question of who pays for the sponsorship, just create a sponsorship button on the donations page.

    good idea mary:rocks

I was thinking the same thing about becoming a lifetime member. I must admit I'm not too sure about the yellow colour looks abit odd when you see the text of the members name on the forum. I think green is easier on the eyes. Maybe we should put it to a vote and find out what everyone else thinks??

As for sponsorship I was thinking if some of us put £2.00 into a kitty or more..like you said a donations page. I always said in my early days here on CF that when i got my foot through the door in IT I would go green and give something back to CF.:biggrin

Maybe I am not alone in that idea???:blink

Why have the "sponsorship" ? ...ok, it goes to active members who contribute to this forum, obviously not to "Mr. Jennins" who rarely visits this place... However, as far as i can tell, there are no active, contributing members here, who cannot afford £2-24 to pay for membership, after all it is voluntary.

Look at BM for instance, the guys like a certification guru, he'll stalk your ass as if he has gained the knowledge from working for The Secret Service, has loads of Rep points, yet he is not a premium member, its not like he cannot afford it... Then on the other side of the rainbow, there is Wiz, the kid has been through some tough times, yet he is a premium member... ...so i feel that there is no need, if anything, when we have these award ceremonies, why don't we give the "members member" award winner the same benefits as a premium member, its not like Si has to pay extra to press the "tit" to enable it.

Also, there is the fact that if 5 different members "donate" to this sponsorship, who ultimately decides which member should get the sponsorship, and what if, 1 of the 5 does not agree? ...it is his/her money aswell...

1 last point, i know i look like a banana, but does the colour really matter, if you become a lifetime or even a premium member, it should not really be for the benefits like colour, inbox and av size and whatever else there is, it should be, imo for the site, for it to expand to new horizons...

Well, that my 2p for this topic... ...next? >

btw: UCM - you have give something back to CF, you are a premium member, and most of all, you always contribute when able to, in my eyes, thats the best way of "giving something back to CF"

Well said Mr Cheeks :p UCM does bring something to CF as a lot of members do, maybe sponsoring is a way of showing appreciation for it.

Actually I know of one who could not afford the Premium or Lifetime, but the Admins were kind enough and valued her enough to make her an Honorary Lifetime member. Many of the new members are working on their certs, and some have to pay out of pocket for their own certification. They would love to contribute money as well as the time to post, but they do not have the funds. I am sure there are active posters who would merit the sponsored membership if it existed.

As I stated, I would be happy to contribute to such a fund, since being green makes me really happy, and I know that there are some who would love to go green if they could.

Unfortunately, I cannot afford it. My wife is a stay-at-home mom who is not working even part time anymore. And that means that I'm dipping into savings just for necessities... Lord forbid, an emergency happen, like if my '99 Altima with 174,000 miles on it were to break down.

Just ask Josh... I'm not eating the Ramen noodles for lunch a few times every week by choice. :dry

All that said... I make pretty good money. Eventually, I will be able to afford it... in 2 1/2 years, the minivan will be paid, Brandon will be out of preschool ($), and Karen will be a world-famous writer. Well... that's the plan, anyway. 8)

Besides, the Secret Service won't loan me the money. I asked. :(

Wooh that's tough. Actually BM you don't need to explain yourself to Mr Cheeks or anyone here on CF. You already do enough to support CF. :rocks:biggrin

Looking beneath Michael's avatar, it says he's a Lifetime member anyway, doesn't it? So why would he want to become a Premium Member too?

I can see where that would cause a bit of confusion. That's due to my huge post count. It doesn't provide the same benefits as Premium Member / Banana-colored Lifetime Member status.

I don't mind - as I've stated elsewhere, I don't have anything to hide, and I don't mind explaining things. Revealing info keeps assumptions away, especially when the truth is far more desirable.

In any case, I don't really feel like I've got it rough. I've got a good house in a nice neighborhood, with great kids, a great job, and a great wife. So what if I don't have a new car, or a hi-def TV, or Premium Member status? Ultimately, that's not the important stuff... and I've got the important stuff. :)

Being noticed for helping out... that's "important stuff" as well. Thanks for the props, UCM. I do appreciate it. :)

A donations page or button can be added easily and the collections there can be used for sponsored premium membership. I think you just need to be careful as to how sponsored premium membership is given out. The way UCM did it seems fine, the donation is made and the receiving member is nominated at the time of the donation. If you make it too complicated then somebody need to take on the responsibility to manage it.

Also if you prefer the lifetime member to be a different colour then I have no problems with that, if you start up a poll and get feedback I'll gladly make any changes. :)
