corrupted during a network installation of XP?

I have just done a network installation of xp on 30 PCs however the 30th PC comes up with a message during the installation that i386 is not accessible please try again.

Could it have become corrupted or could it be a firewall/security issue that I am not seeing?

What did you use to do your network installation? RIS, Ghost?

Edit. Could be a corruption like you said, a bad hard disk, or some files failed to get transfered over...

RIS, sorry forgot to say. All the other PCs are up and functioning and everything checks out with them. The DC can see them and everything like users and passwords can be set but the 30th pc just wont have it.

Also forgot to say that 5 of the PCs including the problem one originally had windows 2000 pro on them but they were wiped completley using killdisk. I am just wondering wether killdisk could have damaged the hard drive or something.

Nothing that indicates a problem. Since you mentioned the hard drive I have been wondering about killdisk (see above) I might try a new hard drive and see what happens.

Unless you have any indication of whether it's a hard drive, I would just try to reinstall using the same hard drive. If that fails then I would attempt a new drive.

Other things that could effect the install is the NIC potentially since you're copying stuff over... I am also assuming that all the PC's are identical?

The source files seem to be okay considering it installed with no issues on the other 29 PC's.

As for Kill disk aside from erasing data, did you do a low level format? if so it should find bad sectors and mark them as bad so the OS won't use it.

yep all PCs are identical (HPs with e8400 c2d and 4GB ram).

What I am wondering is that the 5 PCs that orginally had 2000 pro on them were originally in a workgroup in the accounts dept and completley seperate from the main network. Another guy handled wiping those all though 4 out the 5 are okay. Now I could be a bit out turn here but he isn't the most careful person in world, he once managed to fall over an old server and put his knee through it :) luckily that was for scap heap anyway.

I am just wondering wether he has damegd one of the PCs whilst carrying it through to its new home.

I will try installation a 3rd time and if no luck I will swap out the NIC if still no luck try another hard drive.

I have my theory to why he fell over the server too.....Nigel is 6ft5 and is more than a bit cross eyed so sometimes your not really sure if he is looking at you when you are talking. Anyway the old server was located about 2ft away from a girl called Diane and Diane recently had a boob job (see where this is going). Diane likes to wear low cut v necked jumpers and to say her boob job was a success would be an understatement.

My theory is that he was trying to look down her top as he was walking passed and forgot that there was a server in his way, I have tried to get it out of him but he wont admit it.:D

    Thanks for the suggestion. Repped.

She never actually needed one in my opinion, I think the person that invented the boob job should be shot/

Diane was already a 34C as it was now she is a 34 DD.

I havent got any pics and I think it would be a bit odd if I said "Stand up Diane whilst I take your picture and perhaps remove your top". :biggrin
