why not just call it a boxey thing that lets you connect to the internet

 

Route (root) is a path, rout is a panicked retreat in battle. When a postman runs his route(root), he is en-route (root) (from french) to the post office. Finally don't you call it Route (root) 66 ?

Maybe the french origins are why it's pronounced that way. I guess its all bonkers...

 

Just wait till we get on to the how people pronouce 'Herbs'!
