Static would work fine, but still this is only a workaround, and would not permanently fix this issue, especially, if he takes the laptop somewhere else, and try to attach to a different subnet/gateway, he'll be back to square one.

Another good post?

Are you using the software that came with the wireless card to connect or are you using the wireless settings included with XP?

The only other changes which I made was ..I deleted most of the list of router which I didnt wanted to use.

It was picking up routers name of previous owner....

so Had to delete it and then on the problem started....

second..... I am using the driver which is provided with XP..... i am not using the manufacturer one ...because I cant download it ...this seems bit different as the wave plus WV1200 does not have link to download the driver...

Strange thing in my network connection....

there is 1394 Connection
1394 Net Adapter

this shows connected.... I am not really sure what is it....

but it worked initially.....when this 1394 thing was there.

seems like some from Scotland is replying to my thread... i am in Edinburgh .... can someone help..

I ll buy you a pint..mate

but this time when I tried to connect to BT home hub it asked for network key

and voila....I am on....

After doing some research on this, am i right in assuming that this is caused by the fact the Windows has created a "network conneciton" using firewire ?

It could be, it is possible to network PCs with firewire ports although it isn’t very common.
